WHAAAATF!! LOL I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this happen during race one at Donnington Park. It’s only funny because it happened at such a slow corner and Maxime Berger walked away unscathed.

It’s come to my attention that Motoyard.com is now offering auto track days at Willow Springs. The first event will be held on April 10(Sat).

I’ve been in a GT-R around the Streets of Willow when I first moved to Cali from NYC. Although it was cool to hear the tires screeching around turn 3 and 4, the Streets of Willow never really allowed the GT-R to spread its wings and take flight. The 2.5 mile road course suits all types of cars,  the high hp cars will thrive in the fast sweepers like turn 2 and 8. But the more nimble lower hp cars will make up for it in turns 3-6.

If you have the minerals…and you’re not afraid to put your car on the fastest track in the west. I suggest you visit Motoyard.com and register before the date is filled. April 10th is the first date on the Motoyard Auto Track day calendar.

Soooo I gave Mulholland Highway a break this past weekend to venture up to Willow Springs Raceway to take part in Motoyard’s Racer School. My good friend Greg Nulman owner of Motoyard has been suggesting I do this for some time now. I was putting it off because I wanted to purchase a track-only motorcycle preferably a 08′ R6. But since that didn’t look like it was happening any time soon, I took the plunge and put the 09′ R1 back on track. It’s been over a year since I last hit the track…literally. I lowsided during the last session of the day on my 09′ R1 at the Streets of Willow turn 3. Crash was due to rider error, pushing too hard on cold tires. After rebuliding the bike and my pride, I went back to canyon carving and left thoughts of club racing behind me.

One year later, 2 impounds…police chases and numerous ticket/fines. I decided to play it safe and go back to the real playground for our sport. The track is where it’s at when you want to really hone your skills on your two-wheeled machine. No place better to learn how to brake late into a turn, or back it in sideways pushing the front. Try any of these aforemetioned maneuvers on the street and the results will be met with heavy misfortune. 2 weeks ago I witnessed a good buddy of mine have a head on collision with another motorcyclist. I’ll leave out the details as to what lead to the contact…but let’s just say my buddy was pushing it too hard on the street at that given moment. This accident on top of all my court appearances spurred me to register on Motoyard.com to enroll in the Racer School program.

The school itself is taught by Jason Curtis, superfast AMA pro. He also taught under Jason Pridmore at the Pridmore Star school for about 4 years. The size of the class was small that day because two of the applicants took each other out at Angeles Crest the previous day…”allegedly”. That left me and two other guys in the class. Lucky for us, this gave us more time to spend with our teacher Jason Curtis. The curriculum consisted of some class room time going over flags and layout of track. Most of the day was spent on track learning the proper line thru the course. We followed him for some time, then he followed us individually to critique our riding style and lines. I suggest taking a class like this, because it takes a long time to learn a track like Big Willow. And this sort of instruction will speed up the learning curve. Thanks again to Motoyard, Greg and Jason. I will be picking up my Novice WSMC license next time out(April 9).

Weapon of choice…2009 Yamaha R1

There’s about 9 feet of concrete in our lane that we all share on Mulholland, motorcyclist, cars and cyclist. A motorcyclist uses less than 3 feet of space in their respective lane, a cyclist even less. Cars obviously take up the most space. With that being said, whenever a car or motorcycle approaches a cyclist on the road it’s pretty common for the cyclist to move over to the outside white line to allow the motored vehicles to pass without the crossing the double yellow line. In this case here in the video, this cyclist decided to move so far over I thought he was taking a short cut or was gonna do a bike trial trick over the dirt mound. But instead he did a face plant into the hill.LOL

This is one of my favorite videos. Probably because I’m in it and not doing the filming myself. Too bad Bucky got caught up behind the 2nd slower rider. It’s extremely difficult and dangerous to try to catch up to the pack once you fall behind. I’m wearing the red suit in this video.
